About

The Métis Legal Research and Education Foundation was established in 2001 to continue the work begun by Senator Louis Morin of Turnor Lake; President Philip Chartier of the Buffalo Narrows Local which administered the Métis Rights Defence Fund; and Clément Chartier Buffalo Narrows Local member and lawyer. The Foundation also has a voluntary board made up of Métis citizens from northwest Saskatchewan. This work included defending Métis citizens charged with hunting or fishing offences, initially in northwest Saskatchewan and also in the rest of Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba.
