Métis Veteran Francis "Frank" Godon (August 19, 1924 - January 12, 2019) joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1942 at the age of 18 and served in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. He landed on Juno Beach in Normandy, France, on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and four days later, became a prisoner of war after being ambushed by the Germans. He was captive for 11 months before American Soldiers liberated the POW camp.
